1 dead, 1 airlifted after crash on I-78 in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A person died and another was injured Friday night when a car crashed into a tree in Readington Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

The crash happened on Sept. 4, at 7:18 p.m. on Interstate 78 westbound at milepost 26.4 in Readington Township, Curry said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda Accord ran off the right side of highway and struck a tree, Curry said.

A female passenger died and the male driver was airlifted to St. Luke’s, Curry said.

The names were not released and the crash is currently under investigation, Curry said.
