UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – One person died and another was injured after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 78 Thursday night in Hunterdon County, according to New Jersey State Police Sergeant Alejandro Goez.
The crash happened at 8:11 p.m. on Interstate 78 eastbound at milepost 12.6 in Union Township, Goez said.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that an Acura RSX, driven by a 21-year-old man from Midlothian, VA and a Mack tractor and semi-trailer, driven by Adan Loya-Rodriguez, 51, of Waynesboro, VA, were traveling eastbound on the highway and collided, Goez said.
Both vehicles then entered the center median, struck the guardrail and the tractor-trailer overturned, Goez said.
Loya-Rodriguez suffered fatal injuries. The 21-year-old suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, Goez said.
The accident remains under investigation.
