1 dead after Freightliner crash on I-287 in Somerset County

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A Pennsylvania man was killed in a Freightliner crash on Interstate 287 in Somerset County early Friday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash occurred at 5:10 a.m. on I-287 southbound at milepost 22.5 in Bedminster Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Freightliner tractor, driven by a 48-year-old Port Matilda man, was traveling southbound when it ran off the roadway to the right, through the guiderail and down an embankment, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, the man suffered fatal injuries. The name of the driver has been withheld pending next-of-kin notification, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
