
UPDATE: 1 dead after fiery crash on I-287 in Morris County
HARDING TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – One person has died following a fiery car crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 287 in Morris County, according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota.
The single-vehicle crash happened at around 3:15 p.m. on Interstate 287 southbound at milepost 32.8 in Harding Township, Slota said.
A preliminary police investigation revealed a Honda was traveling south on Interstate 287,and in the area of milepost 32.8, the vehicle struck the right concrete traffic barrier. In the area of milepost 32.2, the Honda exited the roadway to the right, struck a ditch, a tree and then caught fire, Slota said.
The driver of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries, and the name will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
The two right lanes were closed for the investigation, Slota said.
