1 killed, 2 injured after crash on I-80 in Morris County

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ (Morris County) – One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Interstate 80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills Monday night, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

The crash happened on Sept. 14, at 8:33 p.m., on Interstate 80 westbound mile post 46.3,Curry said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that an International construction truck operated by a 57-year-old Manchester man was stopped in the left lane of I-80 conducting a mobile construction detail. A Chevrolet pickup truck operated by Frank Orlando Jr., 26, of Wantage, NJ, struck the rear of the International truck, Curry said.

Orlando Jr. sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Chevy pickup, a 31-year-old Newton woman sustained moderate injuries in the crash, Curry said.

The operator of the construction truck sustained minor injuries, Curry said.

The road was closed for approximately 4 hours and all traffic was diverted off Exit 47.

The crash remains under investigation, Curry said.
