1 killed, 3 injured after SUV leaves road, crashes into tree on I-80 in Warren County, state police say

KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – One person was killed and three others were injured after an SUV left the roadway and crashed into a tree on Interstate 80 in Warren County on Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota.

The crash was reported at 8:42 a.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 8.4 in Knowlton Township, Slota said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed a Toyota Venza, driven by a 27-year-old from Cheektowaga, NY, was traveling west on Interstate 80 when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and impacted a tree, Slota said.

As a result of the crash, the front seat passenger suffered fatal injuries, Slota said. The person’s identity was not released at this time.

The driver suffered moderate injuries. Two back seat passengers, a 28-year-old from Williamsville, NY and a 28-year-old from Charlotte, NC, suffered serious injuries, Slota said.

The crash remains under investigation and no further information was available.
