2 arrested after crashing car, fleeing on foot in Morris County
MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Two Florida residents were arrested after crashing and fleeing on foot in Montville Township Thursday morning, according to Montville Township Police Chief Andrew Caggiano.
On May 11, at 8:40 a.m., an officer was on Main Road in Towaco when he received information that the Lincoln Park Police Department was looking for a black Chevy Blazer that was involved in a crash, Caggiano said.
The officer observed the Chevy and advised officers of the vehicles direction of travel. The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles along Main Road, Caggiano said.
The vehicle then crashed near the intersection of Valhalla Road and Main Road and came to rest on the lawn of a residence on Main Road, Caggiano said.
The occupants fled the vehicle and ran from responding officers. Officers searched the area, located both occupants and they were arrested, Caggiano said.
Officers located an ID and credit cards in the vehicle which were later determined to have been stolen from a resident in Wayne Township, Caggiano said.
Marcus Parker, 39, of Fort Lauderdale was charged with eluding, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.
Keon Hampton, 24, of Fort Lauderdale charged with resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.
Both were lodged in the Morris County Jail.
“I would like to thank all of our police officers and dispatcher who were involved in this investigation. They conducted themselves in a professional manner and successfully apprehended both suspects. A great team effort,” Caggiano said.
