2 arrested after eight-week long investigation into distribution of unregulated marijuana in Phillipsburg
PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – An eight-week long investigation into the alleged distribution of unregulated marijuana in Phillipsburg has led to the arrest of a Bergen County man and a Warren County woman, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police had been alerted to the activity after Michael Kearney, 35, of North Arlington and Krista Winters, 38, of Belvidere were spotted selling unregulated marijuana in front of a Phillipsburg dispensary, authorities said.
A search warrant was then executed on a 2003 Pontiac Montana mini-van driven by Kearney and a 2008 Hyundai Elantra driven by Winters, prosecutor’s office said.
As a result of the search, approximately seven ounces of marijuana was seized, along with their vehicles and $540 in U.S. currency, authorities said.
Kearney and Winters were each charged with third-degree distribution of over one ounce of marijuana, and third-degree conspiracy to distribute over one ounce of marijuana. Both were released pending a court appearance, prosecutor’s office said.
The investigation was conducted by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, Phillipsburg Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.
