2 arrested in Somerset County shooting
BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Two men have been arrested in relation to a shooting incident that occurred last year in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald announced Friday.
On March 1, 2022, at around 3:31 p.m., police received a 9-1-1 call from a victim reporting gun shots fired at their vehicle while in the area of Sunny Slope Road in Bridgewater Township. Officers spoke with the victim and determined that no injuries were sustained because of this incident, McDonald said.
As a result of an investigation, it was determined that Ikeem Thomas, 20, of Covington, Georgia, and Josiah T. Talbert, 20, of Somerset were the alleged individuals involved in the shooting, McDonald said.
On Friday, May 5, 2022, Thomas was arrested without incident in New Brunswick. He was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, McDonald said.
On Monday, August 28, 2023, Talbert was arrested without incident in North Brunswick and charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, McDonald said.
Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting.
