2 dead, 2 injured in single-vehicle crash on I-80 in Passaic County

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Passaic County) – Two people died and two were injured in a single-vehicle car crash on Interstate 80 in Passaic County Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

The crash occurred at 10:04 a.m. on Interstate 80 eastbound at exit 53 in Wayne Township, Curry said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Honda Odyssey, driven by Robert Csapo, 46, of Lyndhurst was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 and while on the Exit 53 ramp, the Honda traveled off the left side of the ramp and impacted a light pole, Curry said.

As a result of this crash, Csapo and a male juvenile also from Lyndhurst suffered fatal injuries, Curry said.

Two additional male juveniles suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital, Curry said.

Exit 53 was closed for approximately 4 hours resulting in moderate traffic congestion, Curry said.

The crash remains under investigation, Cury siad.
