2 face drug charges following traffic stop in Sparta Twp.

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A traffic stop Saturday night led to the arrest of two Sussex County residents on drug charges in Sparta Township.

Anthony Castellanos, 19, of Wantage was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to display documents, fictitious plates and unlicensed driver.

Brandon Walsh, 18, of Wantage was charged with Possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Feb. 8, at around 8:00 p.m., a township officer stopped a gray Honda Civic for a registration violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana within the vehicle, police said.

The driver, who was identified as Castellanos, allegedly stated that there was no marijuana in his vehicle, but there was drug paraphernalia. Police searched the vehicle and found a clear plastic bag containing xanax pills that was not prescribed to Castellanos or his passenger, who was identified as Walsh. A marijuana “bong” was also recovered in the vehicle, police said.

Both men were charged and released pending a court appearance.
