2 injured, 1 airlifted after motorcycle tire blows out on I-80 in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) –  A motorcyclist and his passenger were injured Thursday morning when their motorcycle overturned on Interstate 80 in Rockaway Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

The crash happened on Sept. 17, at 10:57 a.m., on Interstate 80 westbound at mile post 37.4, Curry said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Victory motorcycle, which was driven by a 39-year-old Hillside man, suffered a tire blowout and then overturned. Both he and his passenger, a 42-year-old Irvington woman, were ejected, Curry said.

The motorcyclist suffered moderate injuries. The passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, Curry said.

The two left lanes of I-80 were closed for approximately 3 hours.

The crash remains under investigation, Curry said.
