2 officers assaulted in Warren County; 33-year-old arrested

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man has been charged for allegedly assaulting two Lopatcong Township police officers Tuesday.

On March 22, police responded to 612 Avenue A in Lopatcong Township to simultaneously serve an order and assist a state agency, authorities said.

After being on scene for some time, officers eventually located John Tancredi, 33, of Lopatcong Township who was belligerent to state workers and became uncooperative with police. A struggle then ensued, resulting in both officers being taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries they sustained during the altercation, authorities said.

During processing at the Warren County Jail, Tancredi was found to have suspected cocaine on his person, authorities said.

Tancredi was charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree resisting arrest, and third-degree possession of cocaine. He remains lodged in the Warren County Jail pending a detention hearing, authorities said.
