3 face drug charges following traffic stop in Sussex County

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A traffic stop earlier this month led to the arrest of three people on drug charges in Byram Township.

On August 6, an officer observed a vehicle traveling in the left lane of Route 206 at a high rate of speed, police said.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated and while speaking to the driver, William Connolly of Morristown, it was discovered that he had a glass smoking pipe in his pocket that was used to smoke crack cocaine and was in possession of other drug paraphernalia, police said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle produced a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, suspected heroin, and drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and a plastic bag containing multiple smaller plastic baggies that could be used to package controlled dangerous substances for distribution, police said.

Connolly and passengers Sandra J. Barron of Dover and Lamar H. Knight of Orange were then arrested, police said.

Connolly was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, second-degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to keep right, unlicensed driver, speeding, and failure to inspect.

Barron was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, second-degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Knight was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, second-degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Connolly and Barron were released pending a court appetence. Knight was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility.
