3 injured, including 1 seriously, following head-on crash in Sussex County

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Three people are injured, including one seriously, in a head-on crash that happened in Sussex County on Saturday afternoon, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash happened at around 1:59 p.m. on Route 284 southbound at milepost 1.2 in Wantage Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Volkswagen, driven by a 20-year-old man from Sussex, was traveling southbound on Route 284 and a Mercedes was traveling northbound when a head-on collision occurred between the two vehicles while the Mercedes was attempting to make a left turn, Lebron said.

The driver of the Volkswagen suffered moderate injuries and his passenger, an 18-year-old male from Sussex, suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to an area hospital, Lebron said.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Lebron said.
