3 seriously injured after crash in Jefferson Twp.

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Three people were seriously injured after a crash on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township Saturday afternoon, according to Jefferson Township Police Sergeant Joseph Kratzel.

The crash happened at around 4:27 p.m. near the intersection of Berkshire Valley Road and Blue Road, Kratzel said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that Naiomy Rivera, 18, of Somerset, NJ was operating her 2008 Nissan Sentra east on Berkshire Valley Road when she allegedly attempted to pass a vehicle, striking a 2015 Honda CRV, operated by Sajad Akbar, 29, of Warwick, NY, which was traveling west on Berkshire Valley Road, Kratzel said.

Akbar, Rivera and a 15-year-old passenger in Rivera’s vehicle all suffered serious inquires, Kratzel said.

Assisting at the scene was the Milton First Aid Squad, Jefferson Rescue Squad, Jefferson Fire Co#1, Jefferson Fire Co#2, and Jefferson OEM.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Jefferson Township Police Department are continuing the investigation.

“Charges are pending after the investigation is complete,” Kratzel said.
