54-year-old pedestrian killed in Christmas Eve hit-and-run crash on Route 46 in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance related to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Christmas Eve, according to Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

The crash happened on Thursday December, 24, 2020, at around 10:21 p.m., on Route 46 east between Schumacher Chevrolet and Elm Street in Denville Township, Carroll said.

According to Carroll, a 54-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene. The pedestrian was located on the shoulder of Route 46 east.

The man, whose identity was not released,  was critically injured in the incident and was pronounced dead at Saint Clare’s Denville Hospital, Carroll said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Denville Police Department, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
