8-year-old boy drowns in Morris County creek
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Authorities are investigating the drowning death of an 8-year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
On July 12, at around 3:37 p.m., police responded to a residence in the Flanders section of Roxbury Township for a report of an 8-year-old boy found face down in a nearby creek, Carroll said.
Attempts were made by the Roxbury Township Police Department and paramedics to resuscitate the child but those were unsuccessful. The child was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, where he was pronounced dead, Carroll said.
“While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time. As the deceased is a juvenile, no further identifying information will be provided,” Carroll said.
“Our most sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family during this tragic and difficult time. We will continue to assist the family with whatever they may need,” Roxbury Township Police Chief Adone said.
The incident is being investigated by the Roxbury Township Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
