95-year-old woman, dog die in Sussex County house fire

STILLWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A woman and dog have died after a fire consumed a home in Sussex County on Sunday morning.

The fire occurred at 7:02 a.m. at a residence on Dove Island Road in Stillwater Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

A preliminary investigation revealed that there was an explosion inside the house which caused the residence to collapse, Curry said.

As a result, a 95-year-old female suffered fatal injuries, Curry said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Sussex County Fire Marshal and no additional details were available, Curry said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Mallozzi’s family.

The GoFundMe page said, “a very dear friend of mine’s family is in need. Angela has been a first responder for the last 12 years and constantly puts other people before herself.”

“On July 16 a tragedy hit her family and a fire broke out at her parent’s house in New Jersey and ultimately ended up being a total loss, according to the GoFundMe page.

“With deep sadness her grandmother, Maria and the family dog, Bella passed away. Luckily her mother and father made it out of the fire with minor injuries. They have lost everything in the fire. I am looking for donations for the family in this trying time,” the GoFundMe page said.
