FRENCHTOWN BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – An armed man was taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a Hunterdon County home, according to acting Hunterdon County Prosecutor Michael Williams.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s SWAT Team and the Frenchtown Borough Police Department responded Wednesday morning to a Frenchtown residence for a barricaded person, Williams said.
The armed man was taken into custody without incident at around 10:40 a.m., Williams said.
He was later identified as Shane P. Lawrence, 45, of Frenchtown. He has been charged with four counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of third-degree terroristic threats. The investigation is ongoing, Williams said.
“I would like to commend the law enforcement officers who responded to the incident in Frenchtown this morning. The officers and the SWAT team that responded today train vigorously for situations like this. Their level of competency and commitment to their profession directly led to bringing the individual into custody without further incident or injury. Law enforcement exercised great restraint and professionalism in bringing this matter to a safe resolution,” Williams said.
New Jersey State Police, Holland Township Police Department, and Lambertville City Police Department assisted at the scene.
