Authorities investigating after man dies in Somerset County workplace accident with heavy machinery

HILLSBOROUGH TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Authorities are investigating a workplace fatality in Somerset County, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

On Wednesday, May 31, at around 7:27 a.m., Somerset County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a worksite accident on Willow Road in Hillsborough Township involving heavy machinery, McDonald said.

Upon arrival, responding officers located a deceased 62-year-old male from Ocean County. No life saving measures could be made due to the severity of the injuries sustained, McDonald said.

The name of the man is not being released pending all required notifications. McDonald said.

Detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department along with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safety and Compliance Enforcement Officer responded to the scene to investigate.

A postmortem examination will be performed by the Medical Examiner to determine a cause and manner of death, McDonald said.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the death was a workplace accident. The investigation remains on-going,” McDonald said.
