
Authorities investigating homicide in Somerset County
NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ (Somerset County) – Authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday night in North Plainfield, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella.
On March 1, at around 9:36 p.m., police responded to the area of Grove Street and Prospect Place following a 9-1-1 call to Somerset County Communications reporting shots fired with a victim, Chirichella said.
Responding officers located Steve J. Camino, 26, of North Plainfield on Grove Street suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately initiated life saving measures. Officers continued CPR until relieved by North Plainfield Fire Department and EMS personnel, Chirichella said.
Camino was transported by ambulance to an area trauma center where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, Chirichella said.
“Detectives are attempting to establish a motive for the homicide and to identify those involved,” Chirichella said.
