Basement fire under investigation in Sparta Township

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Firefighters battled a basement blaze inside a house in Sparta Township Sunday evening.

The fire broke out at 5:51 p.m. at a residence on Kimberly Court, police said.

The homeowner reported the basement was fully engulfed and upon arrival of first responders, it was determined that the fire appeared to be confined to the basement, police said.

Firefighters used a hand line to quickly bring the fire under control. The majority of the fire damage was limited to one room, with smoke and heat damage extending to adjacent basement rooms, police said.

The Sparta Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Sparta Township Fire Official’s office is investigating the fire, police said.

Andover Township Fire Department, Ogdensburg Fire Department, Sparta Ambulance Squad, Sparta Police Department, and Sparta Township Fire Official’s Office assisted at the scene.
