Bill honoring combat veterans earns support

NEW JERSEY – Legislation sponsored by Senator Jean Stanfield that would launch a special license plate recognizing the sacrifices of military members who served in combat was endorsed recently by the Senate Transportation Committee.

“These plates are a very respectful way of honoring the brave men and women who volunteered to serve our nation and risked their lives in combat action,” said Stanfield (R-8). “The freedoms we all enjoy as Americans depend on the contributions of courageous service members who answer the call when trouble breaks out around the globe. The special plates will serve as public reminders that many of our nation’s heroes reside in our hometowns here in New Jersey.”

Stanfield’s bill, S-3293, would authorize the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to create a Combat Action Ribbon license plate specifically for recipients of earned the military ribbon for satisfactory performance under enemy fire while actively participating in combat.

The Combat Action Ribbon was established in 1969 to provide special recognition to any member of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard when the Guard was under control of the Navy, who participated in ground or surface combat.

The MVC currently offers a Combat Infantry Badge plate recognizing the service of Infantrymen and Special Forces Soldiers of the U.S. Army.
