Body of missing fisherman found in Delaware River in New Jersey, days after boat capsized in New York

NEW JERSEY – The body of a missing fisherman was recovered in the Delaware River in New Jersey Monday afternoon, days after his boat capsized on the Delaware River in Orange County, NY, according to New York State Police.

On September 19, at around 2:00 p.m., New York State Police located the body of William G. Vandyke, 47, from York, PA in the Delaware River in New Jersey, state police said.

It was on September 8, at around 7:25 a.m., when New York State Police along with other first responders responded to an area of the Delaware River in Deerpark for a report of a missing fisherman, state police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that two men were fishing on the river near Cherry Island State Park when their boat capsized. One of the fishermen was located on the shore and received medical treatment, state police.

New York State Police were assisted by Sparrowbush Fire, Port Jervis Fire, Matamoras Fire, Swift Water Rescue Teams from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, New Jersey State Police and the United State Park Rangers.
