Brush fire burns through estimated 3 acres in Hunterdon County

ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A brush fire burned an estimated 3 acres in Hunterdon County Monday, according to a post on the Quakertown Fire Company’s Facebook page.

The fire broke out at 1:38 p.m. on Surrey Way in Alexandria Township. Fire crews arrived on scene with heavy smoke and a rapidly moving fire, authorities said.

New Jersey Forest Fire Units arrived shortly thereafter requesting additional engines for structural protection as there are numerous homes and commercial farm properties in the area, the post said.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes through direct attack and with back burning, authorities said.

The last 2 major outdoor fires in the last week were both attributed to burning combustibles in dry conditions, the post said.

“Please follow all local outdoor burning laws. If you are unsure of the rules, contact the NJFFS in Andover (Section A) as they have the jurisdiction for outside fires,” authorities said.
