SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Budd Lake man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly was driving on the wrong side of the road in reverse in Sparta Township.
Jason Rice, 46, was charged with driving while intoxicated, improper backing and careless driving.
On March 23 at around 2:15 a.m., an officer was on patrol at the intersection of Woodport Road and Stanhope Road when the officer observed a Chevrolet Silverado driving on the wrong side of the road in reverse, Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon said in a news release this week.
When the vehicle reached the intersection, Rice put the vehicle into drive and turned down Winona Parkway. The officer then stopped the vehicle in the White Deer Plaza, Lamon said.
The officer was able to determine that Rice had been consuming alcoholic beverages and asked him to step out of his vehicle to perform field sobriety tests. Upon completion of the tests, Rice was arrested, Lamon said.
Rice was released to a sober adult pending a mandatory court appearance.
