Budd Lake man charged with DWI, assault by auto after crash

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A 58-year-old Budd Lake man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated and assault by auto in connection with a crash Thursday night in Mount Olive Township.

On Dec. 17, at 8:47 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 46, east of Mount Olive Road, police said.

Upon the officer’s arrival, an officer spoke to one of the drivers, who was identified as Kevin Harms, and immediately recognized obvious signs of impairment. The officer asked Harms to exit the vehicle to perform standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

Harms was arrested for suspicion of DWI and before being transported to police headquarters, the officer found him in possession of suspected marijuana. Harms was then transported to headquarters where he submitted to chemical breath testing, police said.

Harms was charged with assault by auto, DWI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain a lane, and reckless driving. He was released to a sober driver, pending a court appearance.
