Budd Lake man charged with DWI following traffic stop
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A 42-year-old Budd Lake man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated and reckless driving in Mount Olive Township.
On Jan. 2, at 9:39 p.m., an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Route 46 east when the officer observed a silver Ford pickup failing to maintain a lane, speeding, and changing lanes without signaling, police said.
The officer stopped the vehicle at the Sinclair Gas Station parking lot and came in contact with the driver, who was identified as Steven G. Fruendt. The officer Galop immediately noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle and allegedly showed obvious signs of impairment, police said.
Fruendt was asked to exit the vehicle to perform standardized field sobriety tests. He was then arrested and was transported to police headquarters where he submitted to chemical breath testing, police said.
Fruendt was charged with DWI, failure to signal lane change, speeding, reckless driving, unregistered vehicle, and failure to exhibit insurance. He was released to a friend pending a court appearance.
