Budd Lake man charged with DWI, leaving scene of crash in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated after he allegedly was involved in a motor vehicle crash and then left the scene, police said.

On Sept. 10, at 12:13 p.m., a township officer was on Route 46 when the officer observed an accident in the roadway. Witnesses on scene described the suspect’s vehicle as a silver Chevy pickup that left the scene, police said.

The officer then advised responding officers of the vehicle’s description and another officer then located the vehicle travelling on Wolfe Road and followed it to a residence on Highfield Court, police said.

The officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as Daniel F. Stroup, 42, and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Stroup was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and upon completion of the investigation, he was arrested, police said.

Stroup was charged with DWI, reckless driving, improper use of a driveway, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to exhibit documents, and driving while suspended. He was released to a sober driver pending a court appearance, police said.
