Burglars open unlocked cars and use garage door opener to steal keys and cars in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two vehicles were stolen early Saturday morning by thieves who got access to the garage door opener and found the car keys inside a home in Readington Township, police said.

The two vehicles were stolen in the early morning hours on Saturday from a residence and a third attempt was made at a separate residence in Stanton Ridge. In one of those cases, the homeowner confronted the thieves, police said.

“In both cases, these dregs of society entered unlocked vehicles, opened the garage door from inside the vehicle and entered the residence to steal car keys,” the Readington Township Police Department posted on Facebook.

“This is not to scare you. This is to prepare you. We all fall victim to complacency. Lets try our best to protect ourselves from these people by locking our vehicles,” police said.
