Christine Florio selected as the Sussex County Health and Human Services Administrator

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – The Sussex County Board of Commissioners takes pride in announcing that Christine Florio has been selected as the new Administrator for the Department of Health and Human Services. As an experienced human services leader with 29 years of experience in the field, Florio has embraced the responsibilities of Administrator for this critical department.

Florio replaces former Sussex County Health and Human Services Administrator Carol A. Novrit who retired on June 30.

Florio has worked for the County of Sussex since 2003 and has demonstrated a genuine dedication to our residents throughout the years. She worked tirelessly with the Health Division to meet the social needs of those affected by the pandemic. Christine is known for her innovative solutions to addressing the needs within our community and securing new grant opportunities and programs to sustain and enhance services.

Christine earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and her Master of Science in Human Services from Capella University. She has received several awards during her tenure including the 2019 Government Official of the Year from TransOptions, the Transportation Management Authority for Morris, Sussex and Warren Counties, for her outstanding leadership and a Distinguished Service Award of the Year presented by her peers from the Sussex County Council of Service Agencies.

Through her leadership, multiple new initiatives and accomplishments have been achieved including the creation of the Sussex County Overdose Fatality Review Team (OFRT) and the Campaign to Change Direction mental health awareness campaign.

The mission of the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services is “to improve the quality of life of Sussex County residents through an integrated approach to comprehensive services that meets the needs of individuals, families, and communities.”

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
