Cocaine, heroin found during traffic stop in Mount Olive Township

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – An Essex County man was taken into custody last week after drugs and paraphernalia were allegedly found during a traffic stop in Mount Olive Township.

On Jan. 21, an officer observed a black GMC SUV with a brake light out and fail to maintain its lane on Route 46 West in the Budd Lake section of the township. The vehicle then turned left onto Naughright Road where the officer stopped the SUV, police said.

The officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as Dwayne Hicks, 55, of East Orange and while speaking with Hicks, police observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, police said.

During the conversation, Hicks advised that he had heroin in his possession, and he was then searched incident to arrest and officers located the heroin. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers found cocaine, police said.

Hicks was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, operation of a motor vehicle while in possession of narcotics, failure to maintain lane, and maintenance of lamps. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
