Commissioners approve several acquisition grants for land preservation in Hunterdon County
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Board of Commissioners recently authorized the Hunterdon County Department of Planning and Land Use to award several grants as recommended by the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee, to further land preservation throughout the county.
Deputy Director Commissioner, Jeff Kuhl and liaison to the Department of Planning and Land Use said, “Open space and farmland preservation is essential to maintaining Hunterdon County residents’ high quality of life and protecting our local environment. It helps keep farms and agritourism alive and viable, as well as enhancing property values and reducing infrastructure costs associated with development.”
Open Space and Historical Preservation Grant funds will be disbursed through the Department of Planning and Land Use, to the following municipalities and non-profits:
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $72,000.00 to New Jersey Conservation Foundation for the acquisition of a portion of Block 20, Lot 14, approximately 12 acres in Raritan Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $150,000.00 to Raritan Headwaters Association for the acquisition of Block 21, Lot 4, approximately 4.4 acres in Readington Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $225,000.00 to New Jersey Conservation Foundation for the acquisition of Block 21, Lot 2.04, approximately 41.5 acres in Raritan Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $235,000.00 to Hunterdon Land Trust for the acquisition of Block 49, Lot 72, approximately 48 acres in Lebanon Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $75,000.00 to Hunterdon Land Trust for the acquisition of Block 33, Lot 13.01, approximately 15 acres in Kingwood Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $750,000.00 to Clinton Township for the acquisition of Block 82, Lot 54, approximately 94 acres in Clinton Township.
- Open Space Acquisition Assistance Grant for $315,000.00 to Tewksbury Land Trust for the acquisition of a portion of Block 21, Lot 2.04, approximately 26 acres in Tewksbury Township.
To date, Hunterdon County has preserved over 37,000 acres of open space and 36,000 acres of
farmland.
