Credit card skimming devices discovered at Denville Township gas station

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – During a recent New Jersey Division of Weights and Measures inspection of a local gas station in Denville Township, skimming devices were found installed on several of the station’s gas pumps, police said.

These skimming devices were used to capture unsuspecting customers’ credit card information. This information was then later used to make various fraudulent purchases using the victim’s credit card, police said.

Police are actively investigating several reports of credit card fraud that may be related to these skimming devices. In this case, the stolen credit card numbers were used at other gas stations throughout the state and not at any other retail business, police said.

“As this is an ongoing investigation, the name of the gas station will not be released at this time. Furthermore, there is no evidence suggesting that the gas station was aware of or involved in the incident and the release of this information could have a negative affect on the station’s business,” police said.

“It is believed that there may be many more victims who have not come forward,” police said.

Anyone who used a credit or debit card to purchase gasoline from any gas stations within Denville Township in the last few months is urged to carefully review your credit card or bank statements, police said.

If you discover any fraudulent or suspicious transactions, you should contact the Denville Township Police Department at 973-627-4900 ext. 350, or respond to police headquarters to file a report.
