Crews extinguish fire at Sussex County hotel

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – Firefighters worked quickly to knock down a fire at the Holiday Inn Express in Newton Thursday night.

The fire was located in the office of the lobby after 9:00 p.m. at 8 North Park Drive, according to a post on the Newton Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page.

The Newton fire chief arrived on location and confirmed a fire in the office of the lobby and instructed the on-scene Newton police officers to begin evacuating occupants, the post said.

The fire was knocked down with dry chem and contained to the object of origin. Crews cleared the scene at 9:43 p.m., authorities said.

 The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
