Driver charged with DUI after crashing into tree in Independence Township

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A 22-year-old Hackettstown man was charged with DUI after he crashed into a tree last month in Independence Township

On July 26, officers responded to the area of Route 46 and Island Road for a report of car that struck a tree, police said.

On location, officers found the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Colgan Crane, out of the vehicle uninjured. While speaking to the officer, he was slurring his words, police said.

Officers administered a series of field sobriety tests to determine if Crane was under the influence. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI, police said.

Crane was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and cited for the violation. He was released to a responsible person, police said.
