Driver ejected, killed in Morris County crash

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A single-vehicle crash in Morris County killed one person early Thursday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Charles Marchan.

The crash happened at 2:49 a.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 26.6 in Mount Olive Township, Marchan said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Joseph J. Bauer, 55, of Mount Bethel, PA, was traveling west on Interstate 80 when the Jeep ran off the road to the right and struck a metal guardrail, Marchan said.

As a result of the crash, Bauer was ejected and sustained fatal injuries, Marchan said.

The crash remains under investigation, Marchan said.
