Driver in critical condition after head-on crash in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – The driver of a vehicle is in critical condition at Morristown Medical Center following a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Franklin Rough.

The crash happened at around 10:15 a.m. on County Route 517 near the Ogdensburg Borough border, police said.

The investigation thus far revealed a vehicle traveling north on County Route 517 left its lane of travel for unknown reasons and struck a dump truck head-on, which was traveling south on County Route 517, police said.

The vehicle, which initially left the lane of travel and struck the dump truck, was then pushed into another vehicle which was also traveling north on County Route 517, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, who left its lane of travel, was seriously injured and was flown to Morristown Medical Center. He is stable but in critical condition, police said.

The names of those involved were not released and no other injuries were reported.

Assisting at the scene was the Hardyston Police Department, Ogdensburg Police Department, Wallkill Valley Basic Life Support (BLS), St. Clare’s Sussex Paramedics, Atlantic Air three and the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit..

Route 517 remained closed for several hours during the course of the investigation between Foxhill Drive and the Ogdensburg Borough Border.

The investigation is still currently ongoing and o charges have been filed at this time, police said.
