Driver seriously injured in fiery crash after hitting box truck parked on I-80 in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) -A driver was injured after crashing into a parked box truck on Interstate 80 in Mount Olive Township Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Charles Marchan.

The crash happened at 1:54 a.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 26.8, in Mount Olive Township, Marchan said.

Based on a preliminary police investigation, a box truck was parked and disabled on the right shoulder and a Toyota SUV, driven by a 40-year-old Succasunna man, was traveling west on Interstate 80. The Toyota then entered the right shoulder, struck the rear of the box truck and caught fire, Marchan said.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries, Marchan said.

The crash remains under investigation, Marchan said.
