EAST HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Authorities are investigating a fatal fire which occurred on Ward Place in East Hanover Township Thursday morning, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
On October 21, at around 12:09 a.m., police and fire officials were dispatched to Ward Place on a report of a residential fire and first responders located an active fire to a single-family dwelling, Carroll said.
The investigation revealed that the origin of the fire was within a bedroom of the residence. Two residents were safely removed from the residence and a third resident was located deceased inside the home, Carroll said.
The identity of the residents and the deceased individual were not released.
“At this time, the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office does not anticipate any criminal charges being filed,” Carroll said.
East Hanover Police Department, the East Hanover Fire Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson / Environmental Crimes Unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.
