Fire departments in Sussex County issue warning of t-shirt text message scam

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Fire departments in Sussex County are warning residents about a scam asking you to purchase fire department t-shirts in support of your local fire department.

Fire department members have received messages offering fire department T-shirts and receive $10 off, Andover Township police said.

On April 29, the Andover Township Volunteer Fire Department posted to their Facebook page, “The Andover Township Vol FD has become aware of an apparent fundraising scam representing our department. If you receive a text message soliciting your purchase of a T-shirt, this is in no way representing our agency. Ironically, we will have t-shirts available in the near future for our wetdown!”

In a post on their Facebook page, the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company says, “We have become aware of an apparent fundraising scam representing our department. If you receive a text message soliciting your purchase of a T-shirt, this is in no way representing our agency.”

If you receive, or have received, a text message similar to these, do not click on the link.
