Fire in room at Travel Inn and Suites in Hunterdon County under investigation

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Officials are investigating after a fire in a room at a hotel in Hunterdon County Friday morning, according to a post on the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad Facebook’s page.

The fire happened on January 21 at 11:48 a.m. in room 236 at the Travel Inn and Suites located at 482 Route 202 in Raritan Township, authorities said.

Raritan Township Fire Chief arrived on scene and confirmed smoke showing from an upstairs room on the second floor of the rear building, authorities said.

The Rescue firefighters and the Raritan Township Fire Marshals entered the room and contained the fire with two water extinguishers while a primary search of the room was performed. The television was on in the room, and with zero visibility due to the heavy smoke, the search was extremely thorough to ensure no one was there. The primary search was negative, as the room occupant had apparently left before the fire started, officials said.

As additional units arrived, a handline was stretched to complete extinguishment and to conduct overhaul while Raritan Township Quint 21 laddered the A side of the building, authorities said.

Secondary searches of the room and adjacent rooms on either side were negative. There was no extension beyond the original room, officials said.

Units were available in about 45 minutes. The fire was under investigation by the Fire Marshals to determine the cause and origin, authorities said.
