Firefighters extinguish structure fire on Halsey Island in Morris County

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Jefferson Township on Sunday afternoon, according to the Jefferson Township Fire Company.

The fire was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Halsey Island, authorities said.

Several firefighters responded with a fire boat and found a 2-story wood frame building with fire showing from the crawl space, authorities said.

Crews established a water supply and began to put attack lines in place while simultaneously, the fire boat shuttled members with all of their gear and equipment to the island to fight the fire, authorities said.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and begin the extensive overhaul operation, authorities said.

Members from the NJ State Police, Picatinny Arsenal Fire Department, and Roxbury Fire Company #2 were able to deploy their fire boats and assist with shuttling manpower, overhaul, and suppression efforts, authorities said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
