Get a new year’s hiss with new boa constrictor at SEA LIFE New Jersey

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – It’s common to get a kiss to ring in the new year, but SEA LIFE New Jersey is getting a hiss with its newest creature, Freddie, a Red-Tailed Boa Constrictor to its Amazon exhibit.

The boa was a rescue brought to SEA LIFE at Mall of America from the Minnesota Herpetological Society in 2019. The Aquarium gave a proper send off to the snake where he was transported to a new home at SEA LIFE New Jersey.\

The new creature, Freddie, resembles a mustache-goatee combo like Freddie Mercury and has distinct markings around his mouth. The 31lb boa eats once a week and sheds about every 3 months.

Freddie is a curious snake, guests will see Freddie “periscoping”, or raising his neck in the air to get a better view of his surroundings.
