GoFundMe set up for 7-year-old boy who died unexpectedly in Sussex County

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A GoFundMe page has been created for the family of a 7-year-old boy who died unexpectedly in his Sussex County home Monday.

The GoFundMe was created by Megan Smith, who said, “On July 3, 2023 an unimaginable tragedy struck Jesse (and his wife, Karen) Smith in the early morning hours as, he found his son, Jax (Jaxon) lifeless in his bed.”

“At only 7 years old, Jax left this world and his heartbroken family behind. The only thing bigger than Jax’s beautiful eyes were his personality and his heart. To know Jax was to love him. He was a beast on the wrestling mat and in the soccer field; despite his small stature, he would easily take down opponents twice his size,” Smith wrote.

“Jax was the best little brother to Jake, Justin and Jesse Jr., he has left a whole in his brothers hearts far bigger than his body. Jax’s future was so bright. Jax was taken from this world unexpectedly, tragically, unfairly and way before he should have been. As you can imagine, Jesse and Karen are absolutely devastated,” Smith said.

In an effort to take some of the burden off their shoulders as they plan the heartbreaking funeral of their 7-year-old son, the family is asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses, Smith said.

“At this time there is no information available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this most difficult time,” Andover Township Police Chief Eric Danielson told RNJ.

As of Wednesday morning, the fundraiser collected $27,326 of a $20,000 goal through 353 donations. To donate to the GoFundMe, click here.
