GoFundMe set up for family involved in Warren County crash

GREAT MEADOWS, NJ (Warren County) – A GoFundMe page has been set up for a Great Meadows family who were involved in a fatal head-on crash earlier this month in Warren County.

The crash happened on Aug. 9 at around 11:06 p.m. on Route 46 in the area of mile marker 13.6 in Liberty Township, New Jersey State Police Sergeant Lawrence Peele said.

“Sandra is still in pain but in very good spirits. Her right ankle is sprained and the other is broken in a boot. We also had a chance to video chat with Dave from the hospital. He too, is also still in a lot of pain but he looks great and has a fantastic mindset. He has recently had elbow surgery and still has more to come. Emily should be returning home soon as well from the Rehabilitation unit. DJ is also doing very well. Slowly but surely the family will be reunited,” organizer for this fundraiser Jennifer Germanotta McFadden said.

The family was identified as Davyd Gargiulo, 50, Sandra Gargiulo, 49, Emily Gargiulo, 16, and DJ Gargiulo, 16.

A preliminary investigation revealed, that a Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Robert Johnston, 19, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, was traveling westbound on Route 46 and a GMC Sierra towing a Coachmen Camper, driven by a Davyd Gargiulo, was traveling eastbound on Route 46. The Dodge crossed over into the eastbound lanes and struck the GMC head-on causing fatal injuries to Johnston, Peele said.

As of Monday morning, the online fundraiser has already received over $11,000 in donations from over 100 people.
