Gottheimer, bipartisan House members successfully urged White House to invoke Defense Production Act

Gottheimer applauds move by White House following bipartisan push

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following legislation introduced by U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and a bipartisan group of 19 other Members of Congress, the President Wednesday has invoked the Defense Production Act to increase the production of baby formula.

This announcement comes on the heels of Gotttheimer introducing bipartisan legislation today urging the President to invoke the Defense Production Act to increase the production of baby formula, and ensure distribution to all regions of the country through federally qualified health centers.

“Following a bipartisan call from twenty of us in the House today to invoke the Defense Production Act, the White House has now announced this new action to boost baby formula production. I applaud the President for invoking the Defense Production Act, so that we can ensure no baby in our country goes hungry and that no mother or father has to struggle to find the food to feed their child,” Gottheimer said.

Invoking the Defense Production Act (DPA) will help speed up the production of the necessary ingredients used to make baby formula and help increase domestic production.
