Hackettstown man accused of sexually assaulting 7-year-old girl

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A 56-year-old Hackettstown man is accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

On October 14, Hackettstown Police Department and Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victim’s Unit, received information that a 7-year old girl was sexually abused, authorities said.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that on numerous occasions Victor Torres had access to the child and engaged her in various sexual acts, prosecutor’s office said.

Torres was charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Torres remains lodged in Warren County Jail. He is scheduled for a detention hearing in Warren County Superior Court on October 28, authorities said.

The first-degree offense carries a maximum of life imprisonment in the New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum of twenty-five years, during which the defendant shall be ineligible for parole. The second-degree offense carries a maximum of ten years in the New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum of 5 years. The third-degree offense carries a maximum of 5 years in the New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum of 3 years.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, Hackettstown Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit assisted in the investigation, prosecutor’s office said.
