Hackettstown mayor to receive Outstanding Women in Municipal Government Award

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Hackettstown Mayor Maria DiGiovanni has been selected to receive the 2019 Outstanding Women in Municipal Government Award.

DiGiovanni is one of five women who were nominated to receive the award during the New Jersey League of Municipalities Women in Municipal Government Network & Awards event on Nov. 20 in Atlantic City.

“I am honored beyond words to be a recipient of the Woman in Municipal Government Award for 2019,” DiGiovanni said.

The New Jersey State League of Municipalities Women in Municipal Government Committee created the annual award for recognizing contributions and dedicated service toward the advancement of women in government.

DiGiovanni has served as Mayor since Jan. 2012 and was re-elected to a 3rd term in Nov. 2017. Prior to her being elected as Mayor, she served on the town council for six years.

The Women in in Municipal Government was created in 2007 as an outgrowth of the New Jersey of Elected Women Officials. The committee continues the strong tradition of education and professional development for women officials.

The primary goal is to encourage the active involvement and full participation of women in municipal government through such venues as professional development, networking events and other programs

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
